Cachicata Trek to Machu Picchu (4 Days / 3 Nights)

The Inca quarry is a great hiking option for those who want to experience nature and get a first-hand look at the country’s lifestyle in the Peruvian Andes.

The walk of Cachicata is relatively easy compared to some other walks. On our journey we can see a variety of flora and fauna, the terraces of Huarocondo, the fall of water, Inca archaeological remains, platforms, the Intipunku (Puerta del Sol), we will walk along the original Inca trail, stone quarries.

Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – SOCMA – RAYANNIYOC.

The pick-up will be from your hotel at 5:00 am to the Sacred Valley of the Incas 1 hour and 40 minutes and then arrive at the town of Soqma (3,205 masl / 10,512 feet). Where we will start our adventure walk; we will walk 1 hour and 30 minutes and stop at the Perolniyoc waterfall; which is one of the most beautiful falls in the northern part of the Sacred Valley. We will continue our walk for one more hour to go up to the archaeological site of Perolniyoc, located above the waterfall, after exploring the archaeological remains with our guide we will walk for an hour to reach our lunch and campsite; We spent the night at the Rayan campsite (3,700 meters).

DAY 2: RAYAN – INTI PUNKU – CHOQUETACARPO

After breakfast we will leave the camp, for about 3 hours. of slow walk that will take us to the pass called Puka Kasa (4,450 m / 14,600 ft), for many people this is the hardest section due to the altitude but it is the most spectacular day, we will see many snowy mountains and the Sacred Valley in the other side. Once we get to the mountain there will be a magical feeling of surviving one of the highest passes in this mountain range. Then we walked downhill for 25 minutes to our lunch spot. In the afternoon, we will walk for two more hours on a wavy road with climbs and descents. The last 25 minutes we will walk uphill to the highest pass of the trek, Kuychi K’asa (4,457 m / 14,619 ft) and then go down 2 hours to the famous site called Inti Punku, or Puerta del Sol, where we will have a spectacular view of Verónica Mountain (5,682 m) and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will spend the night in Choquetacarpo, which is 30 minutes downhill from Inti Punku (3,600 m).

DAY 3: CHOQUETACARPO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

After taking a consistent breakfast we will continue our walk for an hour to reach Cachicata, the Inca Quarry (3,525 m), which is why it is called Cachicata Trek; where we can walk with our guide and observe all the stone works made by the Inca builders before transporting them to Ollantaytambo. From the quarry of Cachicata we will descend for 3 hours until arriving at Ollantaytambo (2,840 m.) Place of our lunch. In the afternoon we will have a train connection to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a lodging. At night we will have dinner at one of the restaurants in the city.

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

You will have breakfast at your hotel and then take a very early bus (5:30 am) to the Citadel of Machupicchu where the guide will teach you the whole history of this mysterious and mystical place. We will visit the Temple of the Sun, the Royal Palace, the Main Temple, the Temple of the Three Windows etc. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore on your own. At the scheduled time in the afternoon we will return to the Aguas Calientes train station to return to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival at the train station you will be transferred on our transport to Cusco.
