Caral Site, The Oldest Civilization In America (Full Day)
Caral, located 182 kms north of Lima, is an ancient site approximately 5000 years old! This scientifically proven fact has given Caral the title of “The oldest civilization in America” as well as “The Sacred city” since there were many fireplaces found in different sections excavated. These “stoves” are considered signs of rituals performed not only in temples but also in people´s shelters! According to archaeologists, food and other objetcs were burned as offerings which indicates the first examples of using religion as a confirmation of the new state and central government.
Itinerary
We will pick you up from your hotel to go to Caral, we will take the Panamericana Norte until you reach the Supe Valley at Km 182, from there you will cross ditches, speed bumps, plantations of the place, accompanied by flora and fauna. We will observe the irrigation channels in the desert zone, areas of bean, cane, maize and cassava cultivation in the interaction with the local communities. Upon arrival in Caral our guide will be waiting for you to take you to know the different constructions: 6 monumental pyramids, in two of which you can know the architectural distribution that this city had. These constructions include an amphitheater, circular offerings stoves, central squares, residential areas and religious centers. We will be around the site for approximately 2.5hrs. Then we will go to the Albufera de Medio Mundo (lagoon of 07 kilometers long) that was created 25 years ago as a result of the filtrations that occurred due to the irrigations of San Felipe, where we will have free time to enjoy a delicious lunch, we will visit this lagoon where we can appreciate the migratory birds that come from different parts of the world and those who wish can make boat trips. (Optional), and from there we return to Lima.
