Temples of the Sun and the Moon – Chan Chan (Full Day)
Visit two of the most important temples in northern Peru on this route from Trujillo to the Temple of the Sun (Huaca of the Sun) and the Temple of the Moon (Huaca of the Moon), which make up the Huacas of Moche, also known as Temples of Moche With an expert guide, explore the place, marvel at the size of the great temples and learn about its importance to the ancient Moche civilization.

ITINERARY
EXCURSION HUACAS OF THE SUN AND THE MOON
Departure to the Campiña of Moche and start of the excursion to Huaca of the Moon. Arrival at the Huacas of Moche Museum, which has ceramic pieces that show the iconography and activities of the Moche people. Then visit the Huaca of the Moon, Moche religious center, which we will visit through its rooms full of murals in high relief with the representation of its god AIAPAEC or The Decapper or Degollador, warriors, naked prisoners, dancers, animals, spiders giants, the sun, the stars, abstract motifs, etc. From Huaca of the Moon we will appreciate the Huaca of Sun, a pyramid 43 meters high, built for administrative purposes. We will also spot the Mochica Urban Zone, which was the area where high society of the Moches lived. Finally, in the Craftsmen’s Area, we will appreciate pieces of ceramics made with the style, colors, shapes that the ancient Moches used and that the artisans maintain until our days.

EXCURSION TO CHAN CHAN – HUANCHACO
Start of the Chimu excursion, heading to the Huaca Rainbow (Huaca Dragon), which was used as a shrine by the ancient Chimus, who decorated this temple with figures representative of the fertility of the earth. Departure to the Chan Chan Site Museum, which has three permanent and one temporary rooms. Here we will learn about the way of life of the Chimu settlers, ceramics and goldsmith’s pieces. At the end we will see the declaration of Chan Chan as a World Heritage of UNESCO. Then we will visit one of the 9 Palaces of the Citadel of Chan Chan, the Nikan Palace (former Palace that has environments decorated with friezes of various marine motifs, among them the: ceremonial square, Tschudi fish and bird corridor), the hall of the altarpiece, shrines or audiences, Huachaque or ceremonial well, the room with 24 niches, second square and funeral platform. Finally we will go to the Balneario of Huanchaco, here is the legend that Taykanamo, the first king of the chimus, disembarked with his court. Here we can buy crafts, walk along the traditional dock, and spot surfers and the famous totora horses, old boats used by moches and chimus, which are still used by our fishermen today. Return to Trujillo
