Tour El Brujo and Lady of Cao



14: 00h Pick up from the hotel to start our visit to El Brujo archaeological complex: formed by Huaca Cao considered the most important ceremonial center of the Chicama Valley, where large polychrome murals have been discovered, and the Lady of Cao, belonging to civilization Moche; we will continue the visit to the Cao museum, and we will finish the trip arriving in Trujillo

18: 00h Arrival and end of the transfer

We leave the city of Trujillo, taking the Pan-American Highway North to Chocope (35 Km. From Trujillo). Here we enter through the detour that goes to the historic town of Magdalena de Cao (15 km away), where there are several local craft shops. Finally, the affirmed route leads us to the El Brujo archaeological complex, composed of: Huaca Prieta, Huaca El Brujo and Huaca Cao Viejo.

We will visit the Huaca Cao Viejo with its beautiful polychrome murals. In the Ceremonial Plaza we will see the prisoners and the so-called “Complex Theme” or Moche Calendar. Then, we went up to the enclosure where the tomb of the Lady of Cao was found. This patio is decorated with murals that represent the god Aia-Paec and also the life or catfish.

Cao Museum, this museum is dedicated to offer a global vision of the entire cultural process of the El Brujo archaeological complex. It is composed of six themed rooms, in which textiles, ceramics, burnt mates are exhibited.

The last room is dedicated to the Lady of Cao, whose tomb was discovered in 2006. The various ornaments used by this important woman are exhibited: earmuffs, nose rings, crowns, necklaces and truncheons, as well as the very well preserved skeleton. It is possible to observe the tattoos of snakes and spiders that still decorate their arms.
