Vivencial Tourism Community Patabamba – Huchuy Qosqo

Patabamba which means “On the pampa” in Castilian, is a peasant community of weavers famous for the beauty of its fabrics, in which the visitor will be able to see masterfully reflected the culture, customs and dreams of the Andean Rune or inhabitant of the Andes . In the middle of the plain, we will enjoy the warm welcome of the Patabambinos and spectacular viewpoints, which will reveal the beauty that only the Andean landscape can offer, with all these things we have more than assured an unforgettable experience among “the weavers of The Andes”.

Itinerary

DAY 1.: CUSCO – CHITAPAMPA – LIVING TOURISM IN PATABAMBA

We start this adventure by bus to the community of Corao – Chitapampa at 3579 meters above sea level. Located in the district of Taray and province of Calca where we will begin our journey to the Community of Patabamba with a duration of approximately 3 hours of slow ascent through the ravine of the community of Chitapampa towards the Abra of the same name, we will cross cultivation fields as : potatoes, corn, beans and Andean cereals such as Quinoa and Tarwi. Then we will go to the first viewpoint near the community of Kallarayan. The trip continues to the second pass where it is possible to observe some vestiges of an Inca trail, then descend to the Andean community of Patabamba (3951 masl). In Patabamba the comuneros and their families will wait to welcome us, the group will be divided and every two people will go to live with a local family, which will provide them with food and a specially equipped room to sleep. This community is well known for the quality of its textiles, dyed with natural dyes and its designs tell its history.

In the afternoon their new families will take them to collect the flowers and plants they use to dye the wool, then they will teach them the whole process of how they make their tissues. During the dinner they will delight us with their music with quena, tambor and zampoña, while they tell us their stories and their way of life.

DAY 2.- PATABAMBA – HUCHUY QOSQO

After saying goodbye to our families and having enjoyed a delicious breakfast with Andean products, our walk will last approximately 6 hours walk through the natural balcony of the Sacred Valley, which has an average of 600 meters above the valley and the view is simply impressive , you can see the villages of Calca, Lamay, Coya and Pisac as well as the snow-covered ones of La Verónica, Pitusiray and Sawasiray.

The road climbs slowly passing through the community of Sihuas, then take course towards the archaeological remains of Pucamarca at 4000 masl, which in its time was used as a Tambo and point of control of entry and exit of travelers in the area. After enjoying a delicious box lunch we will begin the descent towards the archaeological group of Huchuy Qosqo at 3656 meters above sea level. the road crosses a spectacular canyon known as León Punku, which has vestiges of three bridges and an original Inca road, likewise there are many bromeliads and vegetation typical of the area; When crossing the canyon you can see incredible landscapes that take the breath away from any traveler. Then the road continues descending until we reach the archaeological group of Huchuy Qosqo in this place we will have time to explore and marvel at the beautiful views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

This archaeological complex was built approximately in the XV century, has a ceremonial center, with fine stone finishes of the Inca Imperial type, in addition to abundant andenería. Our trip will continue with a descent towards the town of Lamay at 2941 masl. Where our mobility awaits us and will take us back to the city of Cusco or to the train station in Ollantaytambo.
