Arequipa – Cusco Colca Canyon – Machupicchu (07 Days – 06 Nights)

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival To Arequipa – Visit Of The City And Convent Of Santa Catalina

Upon arrival in the city of Arequipa, reception and transfer to the chosen hotel. In the afternoon, visit of “The White City”, named for its architecture made on the basis of “Sillar” volcanic stone that abounds in the area; the tour starts when we pick you up from your hotel we will leave the historic center, on our tour we will see the Grau Bridge that is made based on Sillar we will appreciate the viewpoint of Carmen Alto where we will have a beautiful view of Arequipa we will observe its 3 tutelary volcanoes: the Chachani, the Misti and the Pichupichu also the Chili river and the pre-Inca terraces, excellent place to take pictures. We will visit the district of Yanahuara that has its lookout in the form of arcs based on Sillar, we will visit the church of San Juan Bautista that is built entirely from Sillar. Continuing with the tour we will visit the Incalpaca store, where we will be taught how to distinguish vicuña wool, alpaca and llama visiting their minizológico, then return to the city to visit Arequipa’s Plaza de Armas with its Cathedral and its three sets of portals made based on Sillar; continuing the tour we visited the Cloisters of the Church of La Compañia de Jesús, a beautiful example of baroque mestizo and baroque churrigueresque Spanish art, in the seventeenth century, ending at the Monastery of Santa Catalina, a religious tourist complex built in the sixteenth century, emblem of the city, in the pure style of different Spanish cities of the time. Return to the hotel at approximately 06:00 PM.

Day 02: Arequipa – Chivay – Thermal Baths – Folklorico Show

We will pass by your hotel at 07:30 am to start our tour, we will have a 2 hour tour through the town of Yura and the Aguada Blanca and Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve, where we will appreciate many species of birds in their habitat, as well as As alpacas, vicuñas and llamas, arriving in Patahuasi we can use the hygienic services to refresh ourselves and take an infusion of coca (not included) before continuing our trip; We continue through the Pampa de Tocra where we find the bofedales which is a refuge for migratory birds, the bobo bird, the Andean duck, the black ibis, guayatas, etc., which if you are a bird lover you will be able to see and photograph them, We arrive at the Los Andes Viewpoint, which is 4910 meters above sea level, the highest point of our route. From there we descend to the town of Chivay at 3600 meters above sea level, we have lunch assistance and installation at the chosen Hotel. In the afternoon, at 16:30 we recommend going to La Calera to take an invigorating swim in the thermo medicinal waters, or if you wish to visit the ethnological museum of the Colcaguas and Los Cabanas colca cultures, we can also visit its suspension bridge, and the pre-inca terraces restored from this place, we return to Chivay at approximately 7:00 p.m. And at night we have reservations for a folkloric show with typical Colca dances or enjoy the comforts of the hotel.

Day 03: Cruz Del Cóndor – Colca Canyon – Return To Arequipa.

Very early we will have breakfast before heading to the Colca Canyon and our destination will be the Cruz del Condor, where we will have a spectacular view of one of the deepest canyons in the world and, if conditions permit, the great opportunity to make excellent photographic shots of the Largest and most impressive bird in the world: the majestic Condor. Depending on the schedule, we could make a stop in the town of Yanque to appreciate a sample of local folklore as it is known for its crafts. Upon return, you will visit the town of Pinchollo, the only pre-Inca town still inhabited, and the town of Maca, with its picturesque craft market and colonial church. Lunch in Chivay. Return to the city of Arequipa arrived at approximately 17:00 hours. Transfer to your hotel. (B, L)

Day 04: Cusco – Aclimatación – City Tour

Breakfast at the Hotel transfer to Arequipa airport. Reception at the Cusco Airport and transfer to the chosen hotel. While enjoying a cup of coca tea at the hotel for acclimatization, our transfer will give you the information of the tours we will make during your stay in Cusco. In the afternoon at 2:00 pm we will be picked up to start our City tour where the traveler will have the opportunity to visit 5 places. The first will be the “Qoricancha” (gold fencing), current Convent of Santo Domingo, a place that houses in its interior one of the most important Religious Centers of the Inca period. Then, the tour moves to the outskirts of the city to visit Sacsayhuamán (puma’s head), majestic place with impressive stone works, being the heaviest of 120 tons. These stones were transported by Inca workers from remote locations. Here the famous INTI RAYMI or Fiesta al Sol takes place on June 24 of each year. Barely 200 m away from.  Sacsayhuamán is our next destination: Qenqo (Labyrinth) religious center dedicated to the cult to the Earth and, according to some theories, to funeral rituals. Continuing they are to about 10 minutes in bus from Puca Pukara (Reddish place) that was used like center of military use and control, as well as also a place of obligatory stop for all the travelers of the Inca time. Our last destination, located only 100 m. of Puca Pukara is Tambomachay (Temple of Water) was used as a center of worship and worship of water. Return to the city of Cusco, at approximately 19:00 hours.

Day 05: Sacred Valley Of The Incas – Aguas Calientes (Machupicchu).

We pick you up from your hotel (8:00 am) then we will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the artisan markets and the incredible archeological centers that make this tour an unforgettable place, we will visit the handicraft market of Pisaq, where people still they keep their traditions and we will see their handcrafted works in ceramics, silverware, textiles and others, after visiting this picturesque town we will go to the top of the mountain where we will find the archaeological center of Pisaq, impressive construction built in the Inca period, Here we can observe the great work accomplished by the Incas through an endless number of agricultural terraces, aqueducts, roads, channeled water channels, cemeteries and bridges, that adorn all the mountains around them, after visiting this place we continue our tour by the edge of the river WILCAMAYU (Sacred River) until arriving at Urubamba where they will have a free time for lunch, then continue to Ollantaytambo, where you will find one of the few places in Cusco and Peru where people still use the Inca buildings as homes, the religious part is located in the upper part of the mountain where the temple of the sun continues to project its grandeur; in this place we finish the tour at approximately 04:00 p.m. then we went to the train station; We board the train to Aguas Calientes (2 hours), during the tour we will have an impressive view of the landscape of the Sacred Valley of Urubamba, upon your arrival in Aguas Calientes, our collaborators will assist you to take you to your chosen hotel; At night our guide will go to your hotel to give you the last details of your next day’s visit to Machupicchu. Day 06: Machupicchu ” The Lost City Of The Incas “.

We will take breakfast early and then head to the archaeological center of Machupicchu by bus, the trip takes 30 minutes, along a path that takes us uphill, unique place, from where we can enjoy views of incredible landscapes of the cloud forest and down the roaring Urubamba River that contours this canyon, will be an unforgettable experience, where our professional guide will transmit the history that surrounds this mysterious and enchanting enclosure, visiting the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Intihuatana, the royal precincts, the temple of the Three Windows , the cemeteries and the whole city approximately for 1 hour 50 minutes. After the guided tour, you will enjoy free time to explore the area on your own, take pictures, relax or meditate; This beautiful citadel was built next to the mountain Huaynapicchu if you wish you can visit, but let us know in advance as there are only 400 spaces per day, and we need to make the reservation in advance. After the tour we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes to find a place for lunch in one of the various restaurants and make purchases. In the afternoon, we will board the return train to Ollantaytambo station, upon your arrival and depending on the train reservation, our collaborators will wait for you to transfer you to your hotel in the city of Cusco.
